4PM-5PM: Prayers for the Earth

Marguerite, you lived a simple and frugal life, caring for the needs of neighbors and tending the earth. In these past weeks of being “Homebound”, we have discovered the difference between need and want. We have learned to waste less and to share more, being more mindful of the needs of others.  And we heard again this week God’s words of blessing in Genesis: “Be fertile and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.”  God gave us dominion and care for the earth. May we grow through these days of change, developing a New World where Love, Justice and Mercy abound.

Intentions

A prayer for everyone.

Yes there is fear. Yes there is isolation. Yes there is panic buying. Yes there is sickness. Yes there is even death. But, They say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise You can hear the birds again. They say that after just a few weeks of quiet The sky is no longer thick with fumes But blue and grey and clear. They say that in the streets of Assisi People are singing to each other across the empty squares, keeping their windows open so that those who are alone may hear the sounds of family around them. They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland Is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound. Today a young woman I know is busy spreading fliers with her number through the neighborhood So that the elders may have someone to call on. Today Churches, Synagogues, Mosques, and Temples are preparing to welcome and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting All over the world people are looking at their neighbors in a new way All over the world people are waking up to a new reality To how big we really are. To how little control we really have. To what really matters. To Love. So we pray and we remember that Yes there is fear. But there does not have to be hate. Yes there is isolation. But there does not have to be loneliness. Yes there is panic buying. But there does not have to be meanness. Yes there is sickness. But there does not have to be disease of the soul Yes there is even death. But there can always be a rebirth of love. Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now. Today, breathe. Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic The birds are singing again The sky is clearing, Spring is coming, And we are always encompassed by Love. Open the windows of your soul And though you may not be able to touch across the empty square, Sing Br. Richard Hendrick, OFM Cap., Donegal, Ireland

From, Gabrielle Fernandes

O Mother Bourgeoys, you, whose compassionate power is ever increasing, show us your way of Truth, Faith, and Holiness. Make us humble enough to abandon ourselves to the Will of God, generous enough to find in the Cross the joy of the Loving Giver. May your fidelity to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament lead us ever nearer to this source of light and peace. May your spirit of openness help us to be concerned for our brothers and sisters throughout the world. Finally, may Our Lady of the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bring us to this unity of eternal grace to which God has called you for all eternity. Amen.

Saint Marguerite, grant that like you we may place all our trust in Jesus our Savior, in order that, through your intercession, we may obtain the grace which we so ardently desire.

Saint Marguerite, model of love for God, faithful imitator of the virtues of the Blessed Virgin, consoler of the poor and of the sick, obtain for us a great love for God and an ardent devotion toward the Mother of our Savior, on order that we may obtain the grace we implore.

Intentions

A prayer for everyone.

A prayer for our Notre Dame Family and an end to this global pandemic.

Our Loving Father, Blessed Mother and St. Marguerite Bourgeoys, we are all filled with fear, anxiety, vulnerability and great sadness during this pandemic. May you give us the strength to endure all we are faced with. Console all those who have lost a family member or friend. For those you have called home, grant them eternal life. Heal those who are sick and suffering from this virus and undergoing treatment for an illness. Watch over the elderly, women who are pregnant, giving birth and their newborn babies. Comfort all who are alone and isolated. Guide and protect all the health care professionals, those working in healthcare facilities, our first responders and all who are essential workers. For all students and teachers especially our Notre Dame girls and those that are graduating, help them with this new way of learning. Encourage them in creative ways to maintain their bonds with each other and in finding fulfillment even though they may miss special times together. Enrich our CND Sisters with love and grace for their devotion and commitment to us in carrying out your word and mission. Guide us all to deepen our faith. Bless us and keep us well and safe during this difficult time. Amen.
